In the heart of Yerevan, at the entrance of the Matenadaran (Institute of Ancient Manuscripts), rises the most prominent monument to Mesrop Mashtots. Erected in 1962, the monument is the masterpiece of the renowned sculptor Ghukas Chubaryan.
The sculptor depicted Mashtots seated, with one hand raised as if pointing to divine light, while the other hand indicates the letters he created. Beside him kneels his disciple, Koryun, symbolizing the transmission of knowledge and enlightenment through generations. This grand basalt composition has become one of the primary symbols of Yerevan, embodying the unbreakable will of the Armenian people and their eternal devotion to science and literature.
