The Cascade complex is the hallmark of Yerevan, seamlessly blending monumental architecture, contemporary sculpture, and urban culture. Construction began in 1971 based on the master plan of the legendary architect Alexander Tamanyan, with the primary execution led by architect Jim Torosyan. The complex is a vast system of stairs and terraces adorned with fountains, gardens, and traditional Armenian relief carvings.
In the early 2000s, through the vision and generosity of Armenian-American benefactor Gerard Cafesjian, the Cascade was revitalized. The Cafesjian Center for the Arts was established here, showcasing an exceptional collection of works by world-renowned artists such as Fernando Botero, Jaume Plensa, and Barry Flanagan. From the top of the Cascade, visitors are treated to the most breathtaking panoramic view of Yerevan and Mount Ararat, making it the most beloved destination for both tourists and locals.
