The Moscow Cinema, also known today as KinoMoscow, is one of the most iconic and historic cinema venues in Yerevan, Armenia. Located at 18 Abovyan Street in Charles Aznavour Square, it has been a cultural landmark since its opening on December 12, 1936, when the first screening featured the classic Armenian sound film Pepo.
Designed by architects Tiran Yerkanyan and Gevorg Kochar, the building was constructed on the site of the historic Saints Peter and Paul Church, which was demolished in the 1930s. Over the years the cinema has undergone renovations including major updates in 1960 and 1983 and the facade is decorated with sculptures depicting scenes from famous Soviet‑Armenian films.
Today Moscow Cinema features four screening halls (Red Hall, Blue Hall, Small Red Hall, and Gallery) as well as an open‑air theatre for summer events. It is also the main venue for the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival, an annual event that attracts filmmakers and audiences from around the world.
