Standing prominently at the end of Mashtots Avenue the Matenadaran is one of the world's largest repositories of ancient manuscripts. This institution is not only a museum but also a prestigious research center housing thousands of handwritten books on history philosophy medicine and art. The statue of Mesrop Mashtots the creator of the Armenian alphabet welcomes visitors at the entrance alongside other great Armenian thinkers. Matenadaran is a powerful symbol of the Armenian people's spiritual strength and written heritage.
