In the picturesque village of Gosh in the Tavush region lies one of the gems of Armenian architecture Goshavank (formerly Nor Getik). The monastic complex was founded in 1188 by the great thinker legislator and fabulist Mkhitar Gosh. For centuries it served as a vital educational and cultural hub hosting a higher school (university). Goshavank is famous for its unique architecture and exceptional khachkars (cross-stones) the most notable of which is the "embroidered" khachkar created by Master Poghos. This site is not only a spiritual sanctuary but also a bright testimony to the intellectual awakening and creative genius of the Armenian people.
