The memorial complex rising on the Tsitsernakaberd hill is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. Built in 1967 it has become the embodiment of the Armenian people's unity and unbreakable will. The memorial consists of three main elements: 12 inclined basalt slabs protecting the eternal flame representing the lost provinces a 44-meter pointed spire symbolizing the rebirth of the nation and a memorial wall. Every year on April 24 hundreds of thousands of people visit this sacred site to pay tribute to the martyrs and reaffirm their commitment to life and creation.
