It is impossible to imagine the cultural face of Yerevan without Saryan Park and the majestic white marble monument rising within it. This is more than just a tribute to the 20th century’s greatest master of color; it is one of the city's most vibrant and inspiring landmarks. The monument was officially unveiled in 1986, on the Master’s birthday, February 28th.

Behind the creation of this monument stand two giants of Armenian culture. The sculpture was crafted by the renowned sculptor and People’s Artist of Armenia, Levon Tokmajyan, while the architectural design was lead by the legendary Arthur Tarkhanyan, famous for his modernist masterpieces. This creative duo succeeded in producing a composition that transcends time: Saryan is depicted seated with a serene and wise gaze, looking as if he is observing the passersby and composing a new masterpiece in his mind at this very moment. Standing 6 meters tall, the monument is made of exquisite white marble, symbolizing the luminous and pure nature of Saryan’s art.

The location possesses a unique magnetic charm and cultural mission. For decades, the area surrounding Saryan’s statue has hosted Yerevan’s famous open-air art market. Every weekend, the park transforms into a vivid, multi-colored gallery where contemporary artists display their work, continuing the Master’s legacy of bold expression. It is one of the rare spots in Yerevan where Saryan’s spirit lives on in every new canvas and brushstroke. For travelers, it is the ultimate destination to feel the pulse of Armenian art and take home a piece of vibrant, sun-drenched Armenia.
