Alexander Mantashyanc: The Knight of Philanthropy and His Monument in Yerevan Alexander Mantashyanc is one of the most prominent businessmen and philanthropists in Armenian history whose name has become a symbol of generosity. As one of the "oil kings" of his time he directed his vast fortune toward the development of Armenian culture education and church building. Thanks to Mantashyanc hundreds of talented Armenian youths received their education including the great composer Komitas.

In a tribute to his legacy his monument stands in the heart of Yerevan on Abovyan Street near the Holy Anna and Katoghike churches. Sculptor Tigran Arzumanyan depicted Mantashyanc in motion walking right on the sidewalk among the people symbolizing his deep connection with the nation. This spot where history meets modernity allows every passerby to feel the impact of the great benefactor’s enduring legacy.
