Martiros Saryan is not merely the most prominent figure in Armenian painting; he is the visionary who rediscovered Armenia's visual identity at the beginning of the 20th century. His art is more than just painting; it is a philosophy of light, where the Armenian mountains and the golden sun breathe with life. Born in New Nakhichevan and educated in Moscow, Saryan masterfully blended Oriental exoticism, European modernism, and ancient Armenian traditions.

His canvases were a "vibrant explosion" amidst the gray reality of his time. Saryan famously stated, "Color is a miracle." He demonstrated to the world that the Armenian mountains were not just stones, but living entities painted in the boldest hues of blue, yellow, and orange. His "Armenia" series became a global symbol of the homeland. Saryan’s art represents a triumph over death and chaos; it is saturated with life, light, and an unwavering optimism that never deserted the Master, even during the most turbulent periods of history.
