In the center of Yerevan near Mashtots Avenue stands the city's only active mosque - the Blue Mosque or Goy Mosque. It was built in 1766 by Hussein Ali the Khan of Yerevan. The mosque earned its name from the sky-blue tiles on its dome and facade. The complex features a spacious and peaceful inner courtyard with fruit trees creating a unique Oriental atmosphere in the heart of the city. Today the Blue Mosque is not only a religious building but also an important cultural center hosting a library and language classes symbolizing the cultural dialogue between neighboring countries.
